Gambling Link in Law Murder Case2 July 2003AUSTRALIA -- As reported by the (Victoria) Herald Sun: ``A law clerk charged with murdering his boss was using their clients' money to fund high-rolling gamblers at the casino, a court heard yesterday. ``Solicitor Keith Allan, 54, disappeared in May, 2000, and his body has never been found. ``Yesterday his clerk, Julian Clarke, 47, and a client, Costas Athanasi, 39, faced Melbourne Magistrates' Court charged with his murder. ``…Ms Cannon said it was the prosecution case that Mr Clarke feared Mr Allan was going to tell financial investigators about his misuse of the trust fund and enlisted Mr Athanasi to help get rid of him. ``…The court heard that police found Mr Athanasi parked beside another man, who was in Mr Allan's car, in a dead-end Laverton street on the night the lawyer disappeared. ``Inside Mr Allan's car were his glasses, wallet and personal items, along with digging tools covered in dirt…” |
