Gambling Issue is Introduced in Arkansas

11 January 2001

ARKANSAS – Jan. 11, 2001 – As reported by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette: "State Sen. Mike Everett on Wednesday filed a resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to repeal the state's ban on lotteries.

"Senate Joint Resolution 7 would allow gambling, lotteries and other games of chance to be legal to the extent that the General Assembly authorizes, regulates, controls and licenses them.

"…These proposals go to the Senate Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs, which will decide later whether to recommend them to the Senate. The Senate and the House in each regular legislative session are allowed to refer up to four proposed constitutional amendments to the people for a vote in the next general election."
