Gambling Issue Divides Florida12 February 2003FLORIDA – As reported by the Florida WESH NewsChannel: "Business has been down at Florida's 18 pari-mutuels, and owners want the right to have video lottery terminals so bad they can taste it. "A meeting to discuss that very issue was scheduled to take place in Tallahassee Tuesday, but some legislators did not even attend, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported. "The chairman of the subcommittee On gaming, State Rep. Dennis Baxley, abruptly cancelled a news conference he had called to bash video lottery terminals. "…Its been over 30 years since the House and the Senate have been this divided on budget issues so early in the year. The gambling issue is just driving a bigger wedge between them. "…Some lobbyists believe that the video lottery will help the state of Florida's budget by up to $1 billion and help save the pari-mutuel district.
