Gambling Couple Face Atlantic City Casino Ban14 August 2003ATLANTIC CITY – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City:"…The [Casino Control Commission] preliminarily placed a championship poker player and her gambler husband on the Exclusion List for collecting a usurious loan payment at casinos. "Kieu Thanh Duong and her husband, Tri Cong Van, both of Egg Harbor Township, will argue against permanent exclusion at a special hearing that has not been scheduled. "…Duong and Van charged a needy gambler interest of 10 percent per week on a $9,000 loan to recover a car the borrower had put up as collateral. The borrower alerted authorities, who set up a sting and arrested Duong and Van at Trump Taj Mahal in 1999. "Their lawyer, Lloyd Levenson, argued that preliminary exclusion would hurt Duong, who plays tournament poker. Van is also an active gambler here, having bought more than $600,000 in chips in 456 visits from 1994-2000, mostly at Trump Taj Mahal…" |
