Gambling Cable Channel to Begin in the South

17 March 1997

Memphis, Tn.-- Casino Connection Network, the nation's first gambling network, opens its first affiliate site on Memphis cable Channel 31 at 11 p.m. Sunday, March 23.

The network which will show features on casinos, in this case primarily Tunica, Ms. properties and information on what's offered will also include information on how to play from various experts.

CEO Charlie Stogner explained, "There may be a segment where a dealer from Fitzgerald's will show the basics of multi-deck blackjack, followed by a feature from Carl Anton, publisher of 'Player's Edge' who produces videos on blackjack and is a noted blackjack player." Other gaming 'experts' with CCN shows include, John Patrick and Jimmy 'the Scot' Jordan. Stogner says he's invited others to use the programming.

The shows which will appear two hours seven nights at week at the 11 p.m. slot are planned to mix casino features, videos of winners, coverage of local tournaments, reviews of books, videos, software, and other player aids and anticipates having casino gambling advertising, as Stogner says, "CCN will be a video version of Glenn Fine's Casino Player magazine, offer a similar editorial format for cablevision."

CCN has been advised by FCC that the ban on gambling advertising imposed on TV and cable ad inserts in most of the country outside Nevada does not extend to his method of cable transmission. This, according to Stogner, "means casinos can advertise on CCN with the same freedoms now enjoyed in newspaper and magazine ads and on billboards and other non-FCC regulated media."

He says CCN plans to open affiliate sites in New Orleans, Jackson, Ms. and a number of cable systems on the Mississippi Gulf Coast by mid-summer.
