Gambler Stole From Wife to Pay Debts9 December 2002UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the This is Swidon: "An estranged husband who forged his wife's signature to try to pay off his gambling debts has been spared prison. "Thomas Watmore, of Davis House, Swindon, borrowed more than £18,000 (US$28,422) from the bank to cover the debts, Swindon Crown Court heard. "But after he was convicted of stealing from work his marriage broke down during the summer and the 45-year-old's wife discovered the unsecured loan in both of their names. "Watmore pleaded guilty to obtaining property by deception and making a false instrument the legal term for forging a signature in this way.
