Gala Group Invests in Employees

14 March 2003

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the HR Gateway: "Casino and bingo operator, Gala Group, has invested in creating four 'learning centres' for employees, the refurbishment costs of which alone will be recovered in their first year, it emerged today.

"Amanda Hughes, training and management development manager for Gala Group told HR Gateway today that by being learner centred, it not only sent the right message to employees but will also save them money:

"…`But as well as the savings, it sends the message that we invest in the people who work for us, and this helps cut down the churn in lower level jobs which impacts directly on our recruitment and retention costs,' she said.

"…The four centres are in Coventry, Chatham, and Sunderland which are attached to existing clubs and Tamworth, which is the flagship hi-tec centre.

"…'The Tamworth centre allows us to undertake IT training and has a range of learning hot-spots. Overall, there are three main functions for the centres: management development, IT and bespoke training in subjects such as H&S, all of which are learner and not trainer focused,' said Hughes today.

"…`What we are doing is not costing us any additional money and will even save us money in the long term. Also, quality control is not an issue as it is all in-house and it is all up to us,' said Hughes today
