Free-fall ride promises to top the Big Shot7 May 2001In an ongoing attempt to attract customers, the Stratosphere hotel-casino, already home to one the most terrifying thrill ride in Las Vegas, is proposing a new ride that promises to be even scarier. The latest proposal is a ride that would drop people more than 700 feet down the side of the tower, that currently serves their other rides including the Big Shot, that blasts thrill-seekers 160 feet skyward in two seconds up the tower''s 228-foot mast. According to chief operating officer Richard Brown, passengers would board an elevator at the lower end at the eastern exterior of the tower where they would rise to approximately three-quarters of the way up. During the ride up, passengers will be able to enjoy the view of the Strip and downtown. When the elevator reaches the peak, the carriage would then move to a J-shaped track where it would free fall. At its lowest point, it is planned that the track would cross over Las Vegas Boulevard. The proposal is still being reviewed and will likely take quite a few months before the project is anywhere near ready, but it is certain that thrill-seekers are already on the edge of their seats, waiting to take advantage of Stratosphere’s latest ride. |
