Former Kansas Lottery Official Pleads Guilty to 80 Felonies

KANSAS – Feb. 7, 2001 – As reported by the Kansas Capital Journa : "In a plea agreement Monday, Richard Lee Knowlton pleaded guilty to 80 felonies in the theft of more than $62,000 from the Kansas Lottery while he was employed at the organization.

"Shawnee County District Judge Marla Luckert accepted three guilty pleas to 40 counts of computer crime, 39 counts of felony theft and one count of official misconduct. As part of the plea agreement, the other 188 charges were dismissed.

"…Knowlton is to be sentenced on March 5. Assistant Attorney General Stephen Maxwell said if Knowlton received the maximum sentence, including a departure, he would face 2 1/2 years in prison…"
