Flushed Out

28 January 2003

A Brooklyn-based US$25 million gambling ring was flushed out by District Attorney Charles Hynes in an operation dubbed "Operation Kings Flush".. Nine alleged bookies said to have ties to the Gambino family were rounded up. Hynes has a decade-long tradition of tracking down illegal sports betting in his annual Superbowl roundup. According to Hynes, "...illegal sports betting is used by organized crime to finance prostitution, drug-running and other illicit activities. " He continued to state that it deprived the city of much-needed tax revenue.
