Florida Senate Approves Bingo Proposal28 February 2002TALLAHASSEE. Florida –As reported by the Miami Herald: "The Florida Senate on Wednesday approved the only proposal to expand the state's gambling laws that's likely to become law this year: a bill that would allow charity bingo parlors to sell lottery-style instant bingo tickets. "The bill would allow the sale of instant bingo tickets, known as 'pulltabs,' by charities already authorized by the state to offer bingo games. Ten other states offer pulltabs. "…Unlike some gambling proposals in the Legislature this year, the instant bingo tickets have had little opposition, because they benefit charities already offering bingo games that serve as fundraisers. "Still, Florida Attorney General Bob Butterworth has issued an opinion that determines the instant bingo tickets are not Constitutional, because the state currently only allows the state Lottery to offer such games…" |
