Florida Lotto Jackpot Reaches $66 Million

Tallahassee, Florida --(Press Release)-- The FLORIDA LOTTO jackpot has rolled over nine times to an estimated $66 million! The next FLORIDA LOTTO drawing is this Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 11 p.m. EDT. This series of rollovers began Saturday, Aug. 3 with a $4 million jackpot.

The $66 million FLORIDA LOTTO jackpot is the highest of any single-state lottery in the nation today among the 38 state lotteries and District of Columbia.

If a sole winner chooses to take the jackpot in 30 annual payments, it would amount to an estimated $2.2(a) million per year. If a sole winner chooses the Cash Option payment for the $66 million jackpot, it would amount to an estimated $33 million. (a) Amount based on current daily interest rates.

This is the 10th highest FLORIDA LOTTO jackpot ever. The highest for 2002 was on Jan. 19, when four tickets split an $87.63 million jackpot. The highest jackpot since LOTTO began in 1988 was $106.5 million on Sept. 15, 1990, won by six tickets.

Ticket sales for last Saturday's drawing peaked at 8 p.m. EDT Saturday when FLORIDA LOTTO tickets were selling at an average rate of 27,000 tickets per minute statewide.

Long lines at some retailers could occur Wednesday when ticket sales are expected to peak between 5-8 p.m. EDT. Ticket sales are expected to peak at approximately 25,000 per minute.

To handle the expected rush, 23 addition On-line game terminals have been installed in high-volume retailers along the borders of Georgia and Alabama, and in metro areas.

By the time the drawing is over, players will have contributed approximately $35 million to public education from this series of rollovers.
