FLORIDA LOTTO Goes Shopping

30 November 1996

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- Florida Lottery players can look forward to guaranteed FLORIDA LOTTO jackpots of at least $10 million every week through Jan. 4 -- as well as a chance to instantly win enough for a heavy-duty shopping spree.

If the current $16 million jackpot rolls over again for a third time this Saturday, this will bring next week's jackpot up to $30 million.

Players have come to look forward each year to the special jackpots and other Lottery holiday promotions, as part of the annual "Happy LottoDays" observance. The Lottery first offered the guaranteed jackpots in December 1991 and has offered similar promotions every year since. FLORIDA LOTTO jackpots usually start at an estimated $6 to $8 million.

"This tradition has become so popular with our players that we are pleased to once again offer at least $50 million in guaranteed jackpots through the holidays," Lottery Secretary Marcia Mann said. "We also will be randomly giving away 500 instant cash bonuses of $1,000 each to players who make a single $5 purchase -- enough to do some serious shopping!"

All rollovers during the five-week period are guaranteed to increase the following week's jackpot by at least $10 million. The $1,000 bonuses may be claimed instantly at all 13 Lottery offices around the state.

The Lottery also has rolled out four glistening new scratch-off tickets with holiday themes, along with holiday gift packs that are free with ticket purchases from Lottery retailers and can hold an assortment of scratch-off and on-line tickets -- the perfect "stocking stuffer."

The special holiday games are:

  • "Holiday Treasures," a series of five $1 tickets with five different Norman Rockwell themes, each offering a top prize of $1,000.
  • "Happy Holidays," which are $1 tickets that are perforated in the middle to tear into two gift tags, each with a "To" and "From" line and a chance to win up to $25.
  • "Holiday Cash," a $2 ticket with a big top prize of $25,000.
  • "Celebrate 1997," which premiers as a New Year's game and will offer a top prize of $1,997.
