FLORIDA LOTTO $40 Million Jackpot Drawing This Wednesday Night!

TALLAHASSEE, Florida--(Press Release)--Aug. 14, 2000-- This is the sixth time in this series the FLORIDA LOTTO jackpot has rolled over to an estimated $40 million. The next FLORIDA LOTTO drawing is this Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 11 p.m. EDT. These rollovers began Wednesday, July 26 at $3 million.

The $40 million FLORIDA LOTTO jackpot is the 2nd highest in the nation today, only behind California's $82 million LOTTO Jackpot.

If a sole winner chooses to take the jackpot over 30 years, it would amount to an estimated $1.33 million per year. If a sole winner chooses the Cash Option payment for the $40 million jackpot, it would amount to an estimated $19.4 million(a). (a) Amount based on current daily interest rates.

The last Jackpot more than $40 million was on Sat., July 22 when a group from Vero Beach won a $65 million Jackpot. The highest Jackpot since FLORIDA LOTTO began in 1988 was $106.5 million on Sept. 15, 1990, won by six winners.

Ticket sales for Saturday's drawing peaked at 7 p.m. EDT Saturday, when FLORIDA LOTTO tickets were selling at an average rate of 15,000 tickets per minute state-wide. This compares to an average rate of 10,000 per minute statewide at 7 p.m. last Wednesday night for an estimated $32 million jackpot.

Lines at some retailers could occur Wednesday evening when ticket sales are expected to peak at approximately 12,000 per minute, probably between 5-8 p.m. EDT. Typical Wednesday sales peak at 4,000 per minute for a $3 million jackpot.

By the time the drawing is over, players will have contributed approximately $18 million to Florida's Schools from this series of rollovers.
