Florida Gaming Ship Seeks Port6 August 2003RIVIERA BEACH, Florida – As reported by the Palm Beach Post: “Another company is ready to take the plunge in the cruise-to-nowhere gambling business in Palm Beach County. “Harbor Lights Casino Cruises -- a start-up outfit launched by three men who work for Sterling Casino Lines at Port Canaveral -- wants to run two cruises a day, seven days a week out of the city marina. An agreement will be considered today by the city council. The company wants to start sailing Sept. 1. “Getting on board will be free, like other gambling ships in the area. The company plans to profit from gambling, food and drinks. “…Horizon Cruises started sailing at the city marina in 2001 and stopped in 2002. “…City marina director George Carter has been trying to get a new cruise business at the marina for the past year, approaching about 10 operators. None of them wanted to commit to a one-year contract, except Harbor Lights. “If the city approves the deal, it would collect about $150,000 in fees, which would help a marina that has struggled to break even, [City Manager Bill] Wilkins said…” |
