Five Charged with Felony Gambling Charges21 May 2002OKLAHOMA – As reported by the Oklahoman: "Felony commercial gambling charges have been filed against five people as a result of a raid on a southeast Oklahoma City bingo hall. "The raids were part of an investigation by federal, state and local authorities into the Apache Oak Cliff Indian Center Bingo Hall, which opened in January near SE 44 and Bryant Avenue on land bought by the Apache Tribe. "…Proprietors claimed the bingo hall was operating on tribal land. However, investigators confirmed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs that the city and state had jurisdiction, a court affidavit states. "The penalty for commercial gambling is up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. "…Officers found games being played at two of the four blackjack tables, the affidavit states. "Four undercover officers were inside the center, buying chips to play cards, court records show. Players won chips, which could be cashed in for money. "…Officers confiscated blackjack tables, blackjack gambling records, numerous chips and about $11,000…" |
