Fishfinders Heaven

27 March 1997

It is interesting to note that while HHH 3.0 is trying to save us all from the perils of on-line gambling he does not seem to be watching what is going on in his own little piece of Fishfinders heaven.

They are planning to build a new stadium in Minneapolis Minnesota. Problem is there is no money. So Sen. Dean Johnson, R-Willmar, the minority leader of the Minnesota said a special state lottery game could be devised to generate the public's share of the stadium's cost, estimated at about $260 million. He even would consider authorizing video slot machines at Canterbury Park, the racetrack in Shakopee.

What's this!? More gambling in Fishfinder heaven?

House Speaker Phil Carruthers, DFL-Brooklyn Center, said coupling the stadium with an expansion of gambling would only intensify his opposition. "That, in my view, is seriously misguided policy," he said.

House Majority Leader Ted Winter, DFL-Fulda, and House Minority Leader Steve Sviggum, R-Kenyon opposed the idea of gambling to fund the stadium, Winter said any use of gambling dollars for a stadium should first be approved by voters through a constitutional amendment. Approved by voters, hmmmmmm, interesting concept.

As you can see, at least some of Hubert's state government buddies are into this democracy thing. Hey Hubert! What a great idea, Democracy! Asking people what they want in relation to GAMBLING.

Great idea...this democracy thing...seems to work in Minnesota.

Hubert, old buddy, what would you say about asking all of us here in cyberspace if we want Internet gambling banned? You know what they say about people who live in glass fishbowls.
