20 October 1998

Beaches Resorts, a subsidiary of the Sandals group of resorts, will build the first-ever casino in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean.

The new facility will be part of a $100 expansion of the Turks and Caicos Resort and Spa. The first part of the expansion, to be completed in December, will include 72 new rooms, two new whirlpool jacuzzis and renovations at the resorts three restaurants. A $4 million children's activity center will later be added as well. The second phase of expansion, expected to begin in February 1999, will include a 6,000 square-foot casino and an additional 96 rooms. The casino is expected to open next summer.
