First California Desert Casino Could Hit Jackpot2 September 2003SAN BERNNARDINO, California – As reported by the San Bernardina County Sun: "While some play down a competition between a proposed Indian casino in Hesperia and one in Barstow, the first casino to open in the High Desert could reap lucrative benefits. "The first casino will gain name recognition and will become a novelty in the bedroom communities of the High Desert, said Tom Shields, spokesman for BarWest, which is the developer for a Indian casino in Barstow. "The first city to get a casino also will become a natural stopping point for people traveling from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, leaving the other city in the dust, he said.
