Filipino Team to Monitor Illegal Gambling in Place7 October 2002PHILIPPINES – As reported by the (Philippines) Sun Star: "An order creating the City Multi-Sectoral Monitoring Team (CMMT) against jueteng and other forms of illegal gambling and illegal trade had taken effect over the weekend. "…The DO (Department Order), mandating the creation of the CMMT was signed by DILG Secretary Jose D. Lina, with the objective of intensifying government campaign to eliminate all forms of illegal gambling and illegal drug trade in all cities and municipalities in the country. "Further, the DO stated that its creation, was in pursuance of the State-of-the-Nation-Address (Sona) commitment of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, to address the problem of illegal gambling. "…Among its duties and responsibilities, the CMMT shall: "a) gather information on reported existence of illegal gambling and drug trade; "b) shall coordinate and share its findings with other local bodies such as peace and order council and the local anti-drug council mandated to address these concerns to facilitate immediate action; and, "c) shall periodically furnish the regional multi-sectoral monitoring team (RMMT), with its findings, assessments and recommendations to impose over all law enforcement strategies concerning the above-stated crimes in the city." |
