Feds: Illegal Gambling Netted Man $25 Million3 March 2003DAYTON, Ohio -- As reported by the Dayton Daily News: `` The federal government moved Friday to seize homes, cash and other property from members of an alleged gambling operation that it claims netted its leader at least $25 million. ```Robert Roth has been operating a gambling organization in Greene County since approximately 1977,' Beavercreek police Detective Eric D. Grile, a member of the Greene County Agencies for Combined Enforcement Task Force, states in a sworn statement attached to the lawsuit. ``The forfeiture action is a civil lawsuit, seeking court permission to seize property alleged to be "derived from proceeds traceable to . . . unlawful activity." It does not charge individuals with specific crimes. ``The lawsuit claims Roth ran a casino in Beavercreek and provided gambling machines to private clubs in Greene County and surrounding areas. ``Grile offered $25 million as `an extremely conservative estimate of Robert Roth's portion of the profits from these illegal gambling businesses over the past 14 years.' ``He said Roth used the profits and 'bought properties which he has put in the names of his family members'…" |
