Federer & Sharapova Favored To Repeat at Wimbledon

14 June 2005

WILLEMSTAD, CURACAO - (PRESS RELEASE) -- With the best tennis players on the planet gathering at the All England Tennis Club next week to play in the sport's oldest tournament, PinnacleSports.com today released odds on who will win the Men's and Women's single titles at Wimbledon. Although the draw for the world's most prestigious tennis tournament hasn't been set yet, PinnacleSports.com foresees history repeating itself on the grass courts listing 2004 champions Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova as the favorites to win again this year.

PinnacleSports.com has made the world's top ranked men's player Roger Federer an overwhelming favorite to win his third consecutive Wimbledon singles title at unprecedented odds of 2/3 (i.e., win $2 for every $3 bet). American Andy Roddick has been listed at 11/2 to win his first Wimbledon title, while 2002 champion Leyton Hewitt comes in at 13/1. PinnacleSports.com currently lists the newly crowned French Open champion Rafael Nadal at 17/1 to win on the unfamiliar grass courts of the All England Tennis Club. A semi-finalist in 2004, Croatian Mario Ancic also comes in at 17/1, while Tim Henman stands at 18/1 to become the first British player to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936. Meanwhile PinnacleSports.com lists 1992 champion and crowd favorite Andre Agassi, who may be playing in his final Wimbledon, as a 62/1 long shot to capture his ninth Grand Slam title.

On the women's side, PinnacleSports.com has listed last year's champ Maria Sharapova as a 3/1 co-favorite along with this year's French Open winner Justine Henin-Hardenne. Two-time champion and runner-up last year, Serena Williams currently stands at 9/2 odds to add another Wimbledon crown to her resume, while Belgian Kim Clijsters is 13/2 to win her first Grand Slam title on the grass courts. PinnacleSports.com also lists current world number one and 1999 champion Lindsey Davenport at 10/1, while 2000 and 2001 champ Venus Williams is 15/1 to win her third Wimbledon.

"Although it's often said that the most difficult thing to do in sports is to repeat as a champion, we believe both of last year's Wimbledon singles champs have what it takes to accomplish the feat," said Simon Noble of PinnacleSports.com. "Federer is the favorite in every tournament he enters, but what's astonishing is that he enters Wimbledon as such a huge favorite. Of the women Sharapova and Henin-Hardenne appear to be on top of their games heading into Wimbledon, but nobody can overlook the Williams' sisters who can both march through the draw with ease if they're playing their best."

PinnacleSports.com will also offer betting lines on every Wimbledon match utilizing their unique -105 pricing model that provides more value and up to 50% better odds to players than traditional sports books. For more information and a complete list of odds, please visit www.pinnaclesports.com.
