FBI Arrests Man For Theft, Kidnapping2 August 2001KEOKUK, Illinois –August 2, 2001 –As reported by Iowa Hawk Eye: "An Illinois man was arrested Wednesday for kidnapping and theft for an incident near Keokuk in April. "Michael Kelly Jeffrey, 31, was arrested by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies in Springfield, Ill. "…The arrest warrant, obtained from Lee County District Court in Keokuk, alleges that on April 13 Jeffrey stole approximately $3,000 from L. Douglas Duffie of Hamilton, Ill., before severely beating him and leaving him in a roadside ditch. "…Authorities believe Jeffrey and Duffie met at the Tee Pee Lounge in Keokuk, where Duffie agreed to give Jeffrey a ride to the Catfish Bend Casino in Burlington early in the morning on April 13. "At the casino, Duffie won $2,100 while playing blackjack, then proceeded to give Jeffrey a ride back to Keokuk. "…Just outside of Keokuk, authorities say, Jeffrey grabbed Duffie and placed a hard object in the back of his neck. Jeffrey then told Duffie to drive down a secluded country road. "Duffie was ordered out of the truck and was when robbed and beaten, the warrant says. Jeffrey then drove Duffie's truck back to Keokuk where it was found abandoned two days later. "…Authorities say Jeffrey has an extensive criminal record, including assaults, armed robbery and arson. He was recently paroled from Minnards State Prison in Illinois…" |
