Father Arrested for Allegedly Leaving Daughter in Car5 November 2001QUINCY, Massachusetts -- Nov.5, 2001 -- As reported by the Associated Press: ``A Hanson man was arrested at Newport Grand Jai Alai in Rhode Island after allegedly leaving his 6-year-old daughter in the car for two hours while he gambled. ``James Connors, 33, was arrested Thursday after several patrons reported that a child was alone in a car. ``The girl was unharmed, though she said she hadn't eaten that day. She's been taken into custody by the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families. Connors was arraigned on a charge of child neglect, and released on $300 bail. ``...Connors told police he had left the girl alone for almost two hours while he tried to make enough money at Newport Grand to rent a two-bedroom house on the South Shore. He told the Patriot Ledger of Quincy that he regretted what he'd done. ``...if I get her back that will be like winning $5 million, $10 million'' he said..." |
