Executive Loses Bid for New Mexico Racetrack License31 October 2002"ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico -- As reported by the Associated Press: "The State Racing Commission on Wednesday rejected a Las Vegas and Louisiana businessman's application to open a horse racetrack in southeastern New Mexico. "The commission decision to nix Shawn Scott's application leaves two other applicants in the running for the proposed Lea Downs in Hobbs -- R.D. Hubbard, owner of Ruidoso Downs, and Ken Newton, former owner of the now closed Downs at Santa Fe. "Former New Mexico Gov. Toney Anaya, who has been representing Scott, said he was disappointed by the decision and could not understand why it was rejected. "…`It's become obvious that the door is being left open for Mr. Hubbard to find a way around his legal problems and hang in there with the Hobbs application,' Anaya said. "…Scott and his Louisiana Racing company have been involved in a contract battle with the former owners of Delta Downs…" |
