Ex-Premier of Canadian Provice Faces Fraud Charge23 October 2000VANCOUVER, Canada – Oct. 23, 2000 – As reported by The Associated Press: " A former premier of British Columbia has been charged with fraud and breach of trust for allegedly helping a friend get a license to open a casino, police said. "Glen Clark, the top elected official in the western Canadian province from 1996 until he resigned last year, denied the charges. "…The maximum sentence for either count is five years imprisonment. "Authorities suspect that Clark accepted improvements to his properties from a friend, Dimitrios Pilarinos, in exchange for helping Pilarinos obtain the license. The license was revoked after the investigation began. "…Pilarinos and two others also face criminal charges in the case. "…Clark resigned after it was revealed he was under investigation. "Clark and Pilarinos are to appear in court Nov. 17. " |
