Evangeline Downs Sale OK'd22 January 2003LOUISIANA – As reported by the Advocate: ``The state Gaming Control Board blessed the $30 million sale of Evangeline Downs on Tuesday to a group of out-of-state investors who plan to convert the track to a "racino" that will operate slot machines in addition to horse races. ``On behalf of the track's new owner, Peninsula Gaming Partners LLC of Iowa, Brent Stevens said the group plans to break ground on the project in March. ``…Evangeline Downs must move from its present site in Lafayette Parish to a 519-acre site in St. Landry Parish to take advantage of a state law that allows racinos in three parishes. ``…Evangeline Downs will become the third racino in the state…" |
