Emerald Casino Wants Attorney General Questioned2 June 2003ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "One day after a U.S. bankruptcy judge encouraged state officials and Emerald Casino Inc. to work out an agreement to their dispute, Emerald's attorneys handed Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan's office a pair of subpoenas, including one demanding Madigan herself be questioned on the controversial matter, Madigan's spokeswoman said Friday. "The highly unusual subpoena on Madigan calls for her to appear for a deposition Thursday. The other requests the attorney general's office to turn over documents related to the Emerald issue, Madigan spokeswoman Melissa Merz said. "The subpoenas came a day after Emerald said it did not know why Madigan is vowing to block its plan in Bankruptcy Court to sell off its license. "…Madigan must sign off on any deal, and one problem she has said she has with the sale plan is that it repays Rosemont $45 million it spent on a casino parking garage…" |
