Early Detroit Casino Backers Win Visionary Honors26 June 2001DETROIT, Michigan –June 26, 2001 –As reported by the Detroit News: "Three men instrumental in bringing casino gambling to Detroit, but pressured to sell their casino stakes because of potential licensing problems, will be honored tonight at the first awards event of the Casino Management Association's local chapter. "Former Greektown Casino investors Dimitrios Papas and Ted Gatzaros and former MotorCity Casino investor Herb Strather will be 2001 Visionary Award recipients, along with Windsor Mayor Michael Hurst. The Visionary Award recognizes people who advance the cause of casinos in Detroit. "Papas, Gatzaros and Strather funded initiatives resulting in the passage of casino gambling in Detroit, but sold their shares because past business practices might have made it difficult for them to get licensed by the state…" |
