Drag Queen Casino Robber Sentenced

BILOXI, Mississippi -- Jan. 9, 2001 -- As reported by the Associated Press: "A man authorities say robbed casinos in Nevada and Mississippi while dressed as a woman has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for jail escape.

"Donnell Johnson, 26, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Biloxi to last April's escape from the Harrison County Jail.

"...Officers said that after robbing Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas, [Johnson and his brother. Reginald], rented a small jet and bought a condominium in Tijuana, Mexico. The brothers are also suspected of robbing jewelry stores in California.

"...Police said Donnell Johnson is believed to have robbed Treasure Bay Casino in Biloxi in May 1997. He was convicted of robbing three casinos in Las Vegas before the Biloxi robbery but fled before he went to prison.

"...Police said Donnell Johnson robbed casino cages on the coast and in Las Vegas dressed as a woman, then changed into business clothes in the restroom. "
