Dover Downs Continues Layoffs5 May 2003DOVER, Delaware -- As reported by the Delaware News Journal: ``Saying it has been bruised again by the smoking ban, Dover Downs Gaming & Entertainment has laid off another 30 employees. ``The company reported last week that first quarter earnings had slipped by 22 percent over the previous year. While harsh winter weather and the slow economy hurt business, Dover Downs managers said the smoking ban was primarily to blame for the problems. The state banned indoor smoking Nov. 27. ``... The company said it eliminated approximately 105 positions through attrition from December until last week. The company subsequently laid off 30 more people last week..." |
