Dog Track Patrons Can't Drink the Water

PLAINFIELD, Connecticut -- As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: ``Water at the Plainfield Greyhound Park off Lathrop Road is unfit for human consumption, according to state and local health officials.

``As a result, the dog track must use bottled water for food preparation at its concession stands, restaurant and for drinking on the site, according to a Northeast District Department of Health statement Tuesday.

``The well water at the track had higher-than-allowed levels of coliform bacteria, copper and lead.

``Coliform is an indicator bacteria for more serious E. coli bacteria, while copper and lead are heavy metals that are poisonous in high amounts.

``Water problems are the latest blow to a facility that for years was Plainfield's identity..."
