Detroit Commission Considers $250 Million Greektown Town

DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Globe St.com: "The Detroit Planning Commission recently held a public hearing to consider the request of the Greektown Casino to rezone more than seven acres at a site bordered by the I-375 service drive, Clinton Street, St. Antoine Street and Gratiot Avenue, for a new $250 million permanent casino.

"The current temporary casino site is on Lafayette, between St. Antoine and Beaubien, in the Downtown area. Plans are to build a 400-room hotel, 100,000 sf of gaming space, as well as restaurants and retail. It's to be supported by 4,655 parking spaces via two levels of subsurface parking and a 10-story garage, a 1,500-seat theater, a spa, pool and fitness center. The complex is still in the early stages of the design process.

"…Martin Beatty of Greektown said the project would be pleasing to the eye, not a Las Vegas design. The design allows for the expansion of approximately 25,000-sf of hotel space to accommodate another 400 rooms. Beatty told the commission that there are still no plans for the $150 million temporary casino…"
