Detroit City Council Passes "Casino Compliance Ordinance"

As of June 17, when the Detroit City Council approved the Casino Gaming Authorization and Casino Development Agreement Certification and Compliance Ordinance, casino gaming is officially legal in Detroit.

The ordinance amends the Detroit City Code to legalize casino gaming in the city. The authorization was a technical amendment to the code. It was required, however, for the State Gaming Control Board to continue its investigation of the casino license applications submitted by Detroit Entertainment L.L.C., Greektown Casino L.L.C. and MGM Grand Detroit, L.L.C.

The ordinance also establishes a process for assuring that the three developers comply with the development agreements, which they entered into with the city.
