Detroit Casinos February Revenues Total $75 Million

DETROIT, Michigan – March 15, 2001 –As reported by the Detroit Free Press: "The three gaming houses -- MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity and Greektown -- took in $75.7 million in February, up $1.7 million from January. That's money the casinos kept after they paid winnings.

"February's revenues, released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board late Tuesday, support the theory that Detroit's gambling market is far from mature, and still has room for growth.

"…The three casinos paid $6.1 million in state wagering taxes.

"MGM Grand Detroit, the city's first casino, remained the dominant house in terms of revenue. It took in $28 million, a 9-percent drop from February 2000.

"…The city's second-oldest casino, MotorCity Casino, posted $27.9 million in February revenue, up 21 percent from last year

"…MotorCity's hold was roughly $25.1 million on its slots and $8.3 million on its table games. It had a daily average of $999,848 in February revenue.

"Four-month old Greektown Casino reported $19.7 million. Visitors have increased steadily. February's revenue was nearly 25 percent higher than November's, the casino's first month of business…"
