Detroit Casino to Hire 600 More by November20 September 2000DETROIT, Michigan – Sept 20, 2000 – As reported by The Detroit News "The Greektown Casino plans to hire about 600 more employees before its Nov. 10 opening, and Detroiters will make up at least half the staff. Job-seekers are lined up at its Monroe Street office, applying to become dealers, security guards, accountants, food service workers and fill other positions. "…About 24,000 people have applied for jobs since Detroit's third casino began taking applications, and more than half of those are Detroiters. Under an agreement with the city, at least 50 percent of casino workers must be local residents. "…The newest casino is expected to employ 2,400 people as table game supervisors, pit managers, cashiers, waitresses, cooks, valets and slot machine operators, among other jobs. So far, about 1,800 employees have been hired and licensed by state regulators to work there…" |
