Detroit Casino Revenues Down From May, Up From 2001

DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Associated Press: "The city's three casinos took in $88.5 million in June, down 7.2 percent from May but up 10.5 percent from June 2001, the Michigan Gaming Control Board said Monday.

"MotorCity Casino extended its lead over the MGM Grand Detroit and Greektown casinos, taking a 37.1 percent market share and bringing in $32.9 million dollars in June, the gambling board said.

"MGM Grand had a 34.7 percent market share on $30.7 million in revenues. Greektown had a 28.1 percent share on $24.9 million in revenues, the board said.

"Together, the casinos took in $88.5 million in June, compared with $95.3 million in May and $80.1 million in June 2001. That gave the state $7.2 million last month through its 8.1 percent wagering tax.

"So far, June's revenue total is the lowest of 2002. The Detroit casinos took in $572.4 million in the first half of the year.

"…MotorCity Casino, which trailed MGM Grand Detroit's market share one year ago, led for the first six months of 2002. MotorCity took in $204.8 million in revenues (35.8 percent share) to MGM Grand's $204.2 million (35.7 percent) and Greektown's $163.4 million (28.5 percent)…"
