Detroit Casino Can't Offer Perks7 August 2003DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: “Local businessmen Ted Gatzaros and Dimitrios Jim Papas lost their battle to keep casino clientele as patrons entitled to free services in their restaurants and hotel, as part of a ruling issued by the Michigan Court of Appeals. “Saying the Michigan Gaming Control Board -- and not the courts -- has the authority to decide on casino regulation, the court's 2-1 decision released Wednesday has the effect of keeping the pair from partnering with casinos for the perks. The state said, however, that Gatzaros and Papas could apply with the board for a casino supplier's license, but they had not done so. “…Gatzaros and Papas sued the state casino regulation arm in January 2002, after they were denied a state exemption to provide gamblers discount coupons at their Greektown restaurants along with the Atheneum Hotel…” |
