Deloitte Drops WPT Enterprises

1 July 2005

Las Vegas Sun

LAS VEGAS -- The same day WPT Enterprises Inc. launched an online gambling site for non-U.S. residents, auditing firm Deloitte dropped the company as its client.

In a statement Thursday, the company said Deloitte resigned because WPT's "involvement in an online gaming venture created audit risks that would require an inordinate investment in time and resources, relative to the company's size as a client."

The West Hollywood, Calif.-based WPT owns the World Poker Tour, a televised series of poker tournaments, and now offers a Web site with real-money poker games and other casino games. The federal government considers online gambling illegal and has moved to shut down sites that do business in the United States.

Deloitte representatives declined to comment, citing client confidentiality agreements.
