Decision on Florida Casino Boat Rift Delayed

26 July 2001

PORT RICHEY, Florida – July 26, 2001 –As reported by the St. Petersburg Times: "…On Tuesday, lawyers for both Star Dancer and Paradise of Port Richey, which has been in the city since 1995, were in front of the Port Richey City Council asking for a decision that would either make the city `a joke' or `put someone out of business,' depending on who was talking.

"The two companies have engaged in tit for tat since April, when Star Dancer first came to town. This go around was over building permits.

"Paradise appealed the city's decision to give Star Dancer building permits for its ticket office and waiting area at a July 11 Board of Adjustment meeting.

"Paradise attorney Larry Crow, who also serves as a state representative from Palm Harbor, told the board that its competitor's parking lots were being illegally built and would bring in too much traffic on U.S. 19, among other complaints. He also complained that the city had allowed Star Dancer to keep building while Paradise's appeal was pending.

"…Star Dancer attorney Robert Leczner of New Port Richey told the City Council he was recently hired by the company and needed the hearing postponed so he could respond to Paradise's allegations…"
