Daily Racing Form Creates Charitable Fund28 September 2001NEW YORK – (Press Release) -- Daily Racing Form, whose offices at 100 Broadway were within a few blocks of the World Trade Center, announced that it is creating a charitable fund that will include the company's donation of $1 for every newspaper it sells at Belmont Park on Oct. 27 for the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. "Daily Racing Form is proud to join in the charitable relief efforts to help those whose lives were tragically affected by these attacks on our neighbors," said Steven Crist, editor and publisher of Daily Racing Form. "Our charitable fund also will be a vehicle for our employees, readers, suppliers and others that we do business with to contribute to this cause." Daily Racing Form will make its donation to the NTRA Charities-New York Heroes Fund and other charitable relief efforts. The New York Heroes Fund was established by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association as the sport's response to aid the families of New York firefighters, police officers, emergency services personnel and other victims in the surrounding communities who perished in the terrorist attacks. Forced to evacuate on Sept. 11 like all businesses in the disaster area, Daily Racing Form's employees were without access to its offices for nearly a week, but the newspaper was able to continue editorial operations without missing a single publication day. With the Form's building reopen but without its vital telecommunications links, DRF's editorial, technology and printing departments have implemented a series of emergency plans allowing it to again publish at full strength. The newspaper's full statistical enhancements that were missing for a few days are all once again available. Daily Racing Form's price reduction -- $3 for the Simulcast edition and $2 for the Live edition -- which went into effect in the aftermath of the disaster, will remain in effect through Sunday, Sept. 30. DRF this week also is printing a special double issue of Simulcast Weekly ($4). Dated Sept. 30, the issue contains complete charts from Sept. 10-22 and winner's books from Sept. 9-22. Simulcast Weekly was not printed last week. "Daily Racing Form sincerely apologizes to our loyal readers and customers for their patience and understanding during this period of disruption to our operations," said Crist. "We assure our loyal readers that the integrity of our database has been maintained and the robust information we provide is accurate and complete." DRF.com service remains limited due to the loss of all T1 lines in the building. While the company is able to offer full online news and pps, it remains unable to supply specialized data for Formulator software users. This disruption of service, which prevents the company from transmitting some dynamic information to its Web servers, has also effected the ability to send email and Web site notifications of some popular offerings, including Carrover Watch, Horse Watch, Trainer Watch and Race Watch. |
