Crossroads Gaming and Turbine Entertainment Hold Asheron's Call Luncheon5 July 2000WESTWOOD, Mass.--(Press Release)--July 5, 2000-- The Crossroads Gaming Network in partnership with Turbine Entertainment Software, a leading developer of Internet-based massively multi-player (MMP) PC and video games, today announced the Asheron's Call Player Luncheon, scheduled for July 15, 2000 at the Four Points Hotel in Norwood, Mass. Turbine Entertainment Software is the developer of Asheron's Call, the award-winning MMP on-line role-playing game distributed by Microsoft. The event, organized by the Crossroads Gaming Network, will give area players the opportunity to meet in real-life their virtual friends with whom they have explored, bartered, partnered, and joked in the game's fictional land of Dereth for the past 10 months. Multiple allegiances--groups of players pledged to the same leader--have planned gatherings for their virtual families surrounding the player gathering. Avid Asheron's Call players spend on average 80 hours a month exploring and adventuring in Dereth. For many of them this will be the first time they meet their virtual-reality friends in person. ``Sometimes we get so entrenched in the virtual world that we forget there are real people behind the characters in Asheron's Call,'' said Event Organizer Brent Stineman of the Crossroads Gaming Network. ``The player gathering will be a good chance for all of the fans to get acquainted and put a face to the characters they have met inside the game.'' In addition, fans of Asheron's Call will get the opportunity to greet the game's designers and artists. ``These events give us a great opportunity to talk with our fans and get their input into the types of things they would like to see in Dereth,'' said Asheron's Call Producer Scott Herrington. ``The land of Dereth, and the characters in it are constantly changing and developing. We look forward to gaining the input of our dedicated fans at this event to make Asheron's Call an even more rewarding player experience.'' The all-day event will include a recap of the early stages of Turbine and the development of Asheron's Call, by Jason Booth, lead designer at Turbine, as well as a question and answer period with the fans.
