Crisis Counsellor Fights Own Gambling Addiction8 October 2002QUEBEC – As reported by the Montreal Gazette: "Marilyn McAran has no shortage of empathy for the desperate video-lottery addicts she sometimes has to counsel in her job at a Montreal crisis-intervention centre. That's because she's seen her life turned upside down over the past two years by her own ravenous VLT habit. Even though she pulls down more than $50,000 a year working 80 hours at the crisis centre and at another job at a group home, McAran had to declare bankruptcy last year. She's now three months behind on her rent and facing other debts, and she often doesn't have enough money to buy the prescription medications she needs.
