Couple Leads Effort Against Wisconsin Casino Proposal

WAUSAU, Wisconsin – As reported by the Associated Press: "A couple who opposes a local casino hopes to send a mailing to every registered voter before the nonbinding Nov. 5 referendum on whether the city should pursue a gambling proposal from the Ho-Chunk Nation.

"`We take a moral stand on this and I'm proud to say we take a moral stand,' 49-year-old Barbara Morgan said.

"…The Morgans said they have distributed `No Casino' buttons, made yard signs, started a political action committee called Families for Central Wisconsin and are preparing a mailing to be sent to every registered voter.

"Sam Morgan, a 49-year-old engineer, said he's heard from scores of people who tell stories about friends who have lost everything because of gambling.

"The city government shouldn't seek revenue from a business that causes so many social problems, Morgan said…"
