Cops Probe Florida Casino Cruise Founder's Death8 February 2001FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida -- Feb. 8, 2001 – As reported by the Associated Press: "Gus Boulis had been embroiled in several contentious legal disputes in recent months, including allegations the Miami Subs and SunCruz gambling cruises founder threatened and attacked a casino owner. "Now authorities are investigating whether one of Boulis' enemies ordered a hit on the 51-year-old businessman while he was driving his BMW on an isolated road in south Florida. "…[Detective Mike] Reed said late Wednesday that police had no suspects but would seek assistance from federal authorities in investigating `anyone who's had a past with Mr. Boulis.' "…In recent months, Boulis had been involved in a series of lawsuits and countersuits over his $147.5 million sale last September of SunCruz to a group headed by Washington, D.C., attorney Adam Kidan. "…Boulis filed suit recently, claiming that Kidan and his partners had bounced checks, failed to repay $2.5 million in operating funds he left with the company and broke a contract provision. "…Boulis was being sued by a one-time SunCruz boat partner who said he was cheated out of his share after the sale to Kidan's group. He was also being sued for child support payments and alimony by a former girlfriend, Margaret Hren, who is the mother of his two children, ages 5 and 7…" |
