Conneticut Survey Finds Abusive Background Among Problem Gamblers29 November 2000GUILFORD, Conneticut -- Nov. 29, 2000 -- As reported by Conneticut Now: "The Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling has released a survey showing that problem gamblers have a background of abuse in the home. "...Susan McLaughlin, the council's program coordinator, said Tuesday it was significant that in the families in which the problem gamblers grew up, 33 percent had alcohol abuse. "Moreover, 24 percent of the families had a gambling problem, 12 percent had abusive behavior and 7 percent had drug abuse, the report said. "...The report also revealed 78 percent of the problem gamblers used their savings to gamble and 63 percent had trouble paying their bills because of their gambling habit. "...Female problem gamblers more often had a problem with slot machines than males, 64 percent vs. 28 percent. But only one percent of females had a problem with sports betting..." |
