Connecticut Legistlators Look at Games of Chance

CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Connecticut Day: "A proposal to let high schools host certain games of chance at all-night graduation and prom parties moved through the legislature's Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, the committee's deadline for sending bills to the state Senate or House of Representatives.

"...Many schools in Connecticut have allowed students at the all-night parties to play games such as roulette with fake money, but lawmakers banned casino-style games when they repealed a 1972 Las Vegas Nights law in January as part of a legal effort to block more casinos from opening.

"Under the legislation, which moved on to the House, students would still be prohibited from wagering on the games but could use fake money to redeem their winnings for prizes. The anti-gambling Connecticut Alliance Against Casino Expansion has opposed the bill..."
