Connecticut governor begins smoking ban talks

CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Hartford Courant: "Gov. M. Jodi Rell has begun preliminary discussions with the owners of the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos over banning smoking at the casinos.

"Rell was urged to open discussion with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe and Mohegan Tribe following a legal opinion by Attorney General Richard Blumenthal on a proposal to extend a state smoking ban to the casinos.

"...Rell, in a letter sent Saturday to legislative leaders, urged them to withdraw the smoking ban legislation so that negotiations could proceed..."
