Connecticut Casinos Report Record Slot Wins16 September 2003CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "Wherever the economy goes, the quarters keep coming to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. "The two casinos reported August slot wins of $77.3 million and $75.8 million, respectively, the biggest monthly takes in the their histories. "The handle, or total amount of money fed into the slot machines, also set records: Gamblers put $940.8 million into machines in Foxwoods and $925.3 million into slots at Mohegan Sun. "August is usually the best month for casinos, as tourists taking vacations drive the normal revenues up. Revenues also were bolstered by the five weekends, including Labor Day, in the month and travelers' continuing aversion to airplane travel; both casinos draw heavily from the New York and Boston metropolitan areas. "…Foxwoods' previous record was in August 2001, when the casino made $76.8 million off a handle of $935.2 million. "…Each business sends a quarter of its win to the state. Foxwoods sent $19.3 million to the state for the month, while Mohegan Sun chipped in $18.9 million…" |
