Connecticut Casino Task Force Meets City Council2 December 2002BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut – As reported by the New Haven Register: "After six weeks of research, a task force studying a proposed casino will meet today with the city council. "Among the issues the task force will address are the economic impact the casino would have on the city, traffic and environmental issues. "…The Golden Hill Paugussett tribe, which is still seeking federal recognition, wants the city to identify and obtain control of at least 200 acres within the city boundaries for the casino complex. "Tribe attorney Bernard Wishnia said talks with the city are almost at an impasse. "`Bridgeport may end up with a casino but not with the offer the tribe put on the table. The state may end up with a lot more money and Bridgeport with a lot less,' said Wishnia. "…`We tried to give Bridgeport something they would not have gotten otherwise,' Wishnia said. `They did not accept.'
